New online chat service to help make therapy more accessible

Published in Press Releases on February 11th 2016

In the lead up to Valentine’s Day, The Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships (TCCR) unveils its new web-based clinical chat service - Chat First. This initiative will enable couples or individuals to ask any questions about couple therapy prior to entering the consultation room.

Chat First, which is TCCR’s first online clinical venture, will launch on February 15 2016. Clinicians expect it will help engage potential clients by alleviating any worries and answering questions about the therapy process. The aim is to offer visitors to the TCCR clinical services website (www.tccr.org,uk) a free, brief and focused consultation with a qualified counsellor which will facilitate their access to services.

The Chat First service will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6:30pm - 9:30pm and will be completely anonymous for the client, providing a safe space to seek answers to their questions.

Quite often, the initial consultation (face-2-face meeting with a therapist), is attended by one partner seeking to gather information about the services on offer. Chat First aims to encourage partners to attend the initial consultation together by answer these questions prior to the first meeting and thus speeding up access to therapy.

Pierre Cachia, Head of Clinical Services and lead developer on the project felt it was important to add Chat First to the services TCCR offers, he commented:

“We know that a lot of people have questions or concerns about therapy and asking for help, so we wanted to find a way for people to be able to speak about what might be on their mind in a safe and confidential environment, and we believe Chat Firstwill provide us with the right platform to do this.”
